Fish species noted in Loon Lake by the 2011 DNR Survey (linked below) include walleye, bluegill, northern pike, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, pumpkinseed sunfish, rock bass, yellow perch, brown and yellow bullheads, and white suckers. Anglers have reported catching crappie as well. No ciscoes or rainbow trout were captured in the most recent survey although they were once present in the lake. Bluntnose minnow, banded killifish, golden shiner, logperch and Johnny darter represent the non-game forage base.
The Michigan DNR is performing a similar study in 2025 on Loon Lake. The report is expected to be available in the winter of 2025.
